Chiropractic Adjustments
What is Chiropractic?
Realigns your spine so nerves work properly. The art, science and philosophy of chiropractic emphasizes the nervous system’s interaction with the whole body. Rather than focusing on symptoms, chiropractors have a holistic approach to wellness that utilizes therapeutic techniques and lifestyle changes to correct neuro-musculoskeletal disorders and promote the body’s natural healing ability.
Does Chiropractic adjustment hurt?
Most chiropractic adjustments are painless; in fact, the adjustment may feel good and can be relieving. If you’ve had a recent injury, however, adjustments can irritate inflamed tissue and cause some discomfort. Some people also experience odd sensations in their extremities after adjustments. This is a normal reaction to the relieving of pressure on nerves and is usually no cause for concern.
How old should a person be before receiving chiropractic care?
While every chiropractor has his or her own preference, people of all ages are candidates for chiropractic treatment. Even babies can have subluxations, due to the rigors of birth. In general, it’s best to treat children’s subluxations early, as they interfere with nerves that control developing muscles and organs. With an early checkup, your chiropractor can detect these problems while they’re easy to correct.
Should I go to a chiropractor if I feel fine?
Your chiropractor can recognize and detect problem areas in your spine before they develop into problem conditions. Chiropractic adjustments may help to maintain or support a healthy spine, and maintenance spinal care programs, which may include advice on posture, nutrition and exercise, can effectively prevent pain. Regular checkups will also ensure that small stresses on the spine don’t become major misalignments.
How will the adjustment help me?
Chiropractic adjustments help eliminate interference that prevents your body from healing itself. Misaligned vertebrae interfere with your nervous system, which affects organs and muscles throughout your body. Your chiropractor treats the underlying problem, which can alleviate painful symptoms.
Does an adjustment have to make a noise to be effective?
No. While it’s true that patients often hear a “pop” during an adjustment, similar to the sound you’d hear cracking your knuckles, it’s not related to the treatment’s effectiveness. Instead, the explanation lies in a lubricant called synovial fluid that’s found in every joint. That fluid contains dissolved gases. Separating joints creates pressure, which forces the gases to rapidly escape, creating a “pop.”
How does chiropractic care help pregnant women?
Pregnancy places additional weight and stress on women’s bodies. Chiropractic treatment can help relieve pregnancy-related low back, leg and shoulder blade pain. It may also reduce incidences of headache and nausea. Ask your chiropractor how much experience he or she has in treating pregnant women.
Is it true that chiropractors do not prescribe medication or perform surgery?
Yes. Chiropractors don’t prescribe medication or perform invasive procedures. They believe the body has the ability to heal itself, and therefore focus on providing it with the right elements for self-restoration. This makes chiropractic one of the safest of all treatments.
Sports Therapy
Heals injuries faster with a multi-discipline approach. Dr. McKay can help you assess your athletic and exercise/fitness goals and analyze your motivation to prevent injuries caused by going beyond sensible activity limits given your age, health profile, preexisting conditions, and any other factors.
In addition, he can offer training and nutrition suggestions, do periodic reevaluations to monitor your progress toward your fitness or competition goals, and work to prevent and treat injuries and rehabilitate you if you are injured.
Many professional and high-level amateur athletes depend on chiropractic to protect them from costly and career-threatening injuries. They want any injuries they sustain to be managed in the most conservative way to lessen their “down time” from the athletic activities that are so important in their lives.
Dr. McKay’s special training in diagnosing, evaluating and managing sports injuries and in providing preventive health care for men, women, young people and seniors engaged in athletics and physical fitness activities.
Physiotherapy
Focuses on pain relief using electrical stimulation/ultrasound. Physiotherapy is a form of health care that prevents, identifies, corrects and alleviates acute or prolonged movement dysfunction.
It’s objective is to promote optimum health and function. There are four systems in the body help us to move; the musculo-skeletal, the connective tissue, the neurological and the cardio-respiratory systems.
A problem in one system can often lead to problems in others, resulting in pain, weakness or limited movement.
Physiotherapy focuses first on resolving pain, stabilizing an injury or condition and keeping it from getting worse. Then the focus is on restoring strength, movement and function as much as possible.
Laser Therapy
Improves cell growth and releives pain. Erchonia laser is a line generated laser. The way it works is through photonic absorption, laser light energy converts into chemical energy, initiating a cascade of events at a cellular level.
Erchonia laser promotes healing in many conditions. It penetrates the skin, increases the ATP and activates enzymes in the targeted cells. As a result of increased ATP and protein synthesis, there is a growth factor response within the cells and tissue.
Erchonia laser improves cell proliferation and relieves pain as a result of increased endorphin release. It also strengthens the immune system response and increases levels of lymphocyte activity.
H-Wave
H-Wave is a modality that assists in increasing local blood circulation and managing pain. It is classified as a powered muscle stimulator.
Through skin applied self-adhesive electrodes, H-Wave produces comfortable, rhytmic, non-fatiguing muscle contractions, which increases local circulation and lymphatic drainage.
When a patient uses H-Wave in both low and high frequency settings, they get an optimal treatment effect.
With low frequency stimulation the patient experiences the benefits of ongoing rhytmic muscle contractions and with high frequency the benefits of pain control.
The main goal of the H-Wave is to break the pain cycle and obtain lasting and cumulative pain relief.
Aqua Thermassage
The Aqua Thermassage is a heated, dry hydro therapy unit that contains 5 rotating hydrojets stategically placed from the cervical spine to the sacrum.
Through skin applied self-adhesive electrodes, H-Wave produces comfortable, rhythmic, non-fatiguing muscle contractions, which increases local circulation and lymphatic drainage.
The clothed patient floats on a vinyl barrier as pressurized water is pumped to the 5 jets producing a vigorous, relaxing, hydro massage.
The combination of flotation, heat and massage help to relax the spine, stimulate circulation and promote better healing.
Acupuncture
Promotes natural healing and improves functioning. Acupuncture is a safe and effective method of treatment that encourages the body to promote natural healing and improve functioning.
This is done by inserting very thin needles and applying heat or electrical stimulation at precise acupuncture points. Acupuncture has a powerful pain killing effect which normalizes the functions of the body.
Acupuncture is a natural way of healing by working with the body rather than on the body.
Rehabilitation
Focused exercise for better mobility.
